experience

Chris spheeris is a performer that takes any pretense out of being spiritual, and any formality out of a concert setting. Sharing soulful songs with poetic lyrics, a warm, strong voice in a pop sensibility just comes naturally to him. He also shares relevant life experiences, insights, and an occasional spoken word piece with a steady dose of humor and spontaneity. Couched in readily accessible language with no discernable contrivance, are themes of eastern mysticism, classic philosophy, theology, new thought, and of course, romance. "it's all about love," he says, "love and appreciation for life, my own humanity, and that of those around me."

performance

If I can help bring about moments of connection within and between people, if I can continue to let moments that I share with my audience surprise me and them, then I will continue to offer my services.

If you have every heard any of my instrumental recordings, you can probably imagine how difficult it would be to recreate this work on stage. Fortunately, with the 3 versatile virtuosos that i do perform with for larger venues, the pieces we take on seem to work well. Zirque Bonner, Eric Zang and Ioannis Goudelis cover bass, additional guitar, oud, ney, additional vocals, middle-eastern, latin and flamenco percussion, piano and accordion.

Most of the time, I tour and perform solo. How? I take to the stage with my guitar and a piano, sing my sensitive, noble-spirited songs, play a few of my instrumental themes, share insights, stories, spoken word pieces, and anything else that might bring us all to laughter and tears.

Here are a few samples of what comes out of my mouth during concerts when i'm not singing. Althought i seldom use profanity anymore, these comments were recorded during a time when i needed to give myself permission to speak in an uncensored fashion. If you are offended by profanity, please click on the "profanity" comment first.

concert comments

Here's what some have said about my performances:

"that was an amazing performance. I cried the whole time you performed solo. Everything you do feels like a gift from God."

"I was blessed to experience the Scottsdale performance.  The entire program was "a moment". Simply....Thank you, and your musicians, for last night's incredible journey. Your music transported me from the "everyday" into a place inside myself that I didn't know existed. My words sound trite (and I consider myself a writer), but I don't think the power of your music can adequately be expressed by mere words
Your music brought me to tears a few times!  I go to concerts *all* *the* *time* and yours was probably one of the best ones I've ever seen!"

"I just wanted to let you know how much I LOVED your concert last night. Words can't describe the feelings that went through me. I was definitely transported to another relm. As far as I am concerned it was the best Christmas present ever."

"It was a privilege to be with the four of you and watch and feel the music and the love flow from you and among you. I have never enjoyed a concert as much in my life. I think that the whole world needs to hear and see and experience what you performed last night."

"At times I felt like I was transported to another place.  I loved your interaction with one another and the gestures, smiles,  and connection that you all have is just pure Love and Admiration."

"It was an evening of pure exhilaration and joy mixed with so much love.  We are still feeling the "HIGH"  vibration from your music.  It is like nothing I've ever experienced."

"What an amazing event at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts on January 6th, I was not prepared for the intensity of the experience! It was delicious in every way - the joy shared by you and "the boys" was palpable and contagious. The performances were breath-taking. The intimate moments shared linger long after and bring smiles to the faces of those lucky enough to have been present. Please return soon!"

"WOW!!!! "AWE-some" performance in Sedona. Assuasive yet provocative. To watch and experience the FLOW and chemistry between you four men is very refreshing. Christo, your boyish charm and soothing vocals, Zirque's subtle sophistication, Eric's exuberant energy (EEE should be a tee-shirt) and Yiannis' playful challenges all came together in a most magical, powerful performance which moved, not only myself, but all of those around me. You were right, the room was full of prescence/presents, enough for everyone. Thank you for the best Holiday gift I could have received...a renewed sense of the Muse, to dance and to be inspired once again, when I had forgotten."

"Chris's openness and vulnerability create an intimate evening of music, song, poetry, and storytelling. His wonderful artistic talents merge seamlessly as he interweaves them with his universal spiritual message. Spellbinding, affirming, touching, and present, Chris's artistic wizardry aligns his audience to a positive relationship with self and others. A truly joy-filled and magical evening."

"Oneness is the message that Chris Spheeris shares with his audience. In an honest, loving way he guides us through his spiritual awakening by way of his exquisitely inspiring music and humorous, poignant and delightfully irreverent storytelling. Chris dares remove his mask and invites us to do the same for what seems more like a group meditation than a concert. A wonderful experience!

booking

My feature-length 90-minute show is available to any group, conference, church, school, university, theater, performance hall, home or club, that can gather enough people and resources to get me there. You can email my office, and I, or my assistant, will get back to you. I am also happy to do poetry readings and book and cd signings.

meditations

Another avenue I have explored recently and am now offering is a 60-75 minute meditation program, which explores expanded identity and awareness. The technique that came to me is based on presenting a series of essential statements that  initiate or reinforce pathways of expanded awareness. The music is a very deep-listening, pre-recorded atmosphere, to which i read the text live. These programs seem to work well at yoga centers, spiritual schools, and health spas. Topics include:

  • i am not my mind
  • everything that is, simply is
  • service
  • the other
  • emptiness
  • the dream
  • nothing to hold
  • the bounty
  • the song within

scoring & licensing

I am available to score dramatic, documentary, or industry film, or do quality commercial work. I've scored dozens of documentary films for Duncan Entertainment, one of which (did I mention this elsewhere?) I recently received an Emmy. My recorded music is also available to license for film, documentary, commercial, presentation, website, whatever. My recordings have been licensed for a variety of purposes including daytime television dramas (do people still call them soap operas?), the Olympics, Greek and Chinese pop songs, American rap artists for looping, large corporations for presentations, and the Miss Universe pageant. For me, playing the music is sharing the music, whatever the venue.
